Architecture

Ian Startup is also an architect and home builder. He is currently a trainer for the Nova Scotia home builders association, and has won 3 awards from the Nova Scotia Home Builders and Renovators Sector Council for his designs.

Ian's designs take into consideration the natural surroundings and incorporate architectural details which blend with the landscape. The homes are often built in the style of the surrounding architecture, particularly early Lunenberg styles.

Each home is created with air quality and energy efficiency as key elements. No manufactured wood products are used, nor are there any off-gassing paints or insulation. Built mainly from untreated natural indigenous woods, Startup's homes are ideal for anyone suffering from environmental illnesses or allergies.

Ian creates bath tubs and Shower floors from woods, walnut, cherry, cedar, oak, spruce and pine. Thesebeautiful pieces are custom made, then encased in non-slip thermo-set plastic to make them durable and water resistant.
